RALLY FOR DAN WOLF Thursday – CANCELLED – for now.

August 28, 2013

DAN-WOLF-630x419The Ethics Commission has extended the deadline given to Dan Wolf to resign to September 19th. Between now and then there are hopes for negotiations that will make changes that may affect Wolf others like him.

Therefore organizers have cancelled the rally for tomorrow.

“We do not have a victory for those of us who think the Commission’s ruling is wrong,” said rally organizer Sue Truitt in an email to participants, “but we do have the beginning of what could be a sensible solution. Now is not the time for more heat; let us pray that cool heads prevail.”

In an email supporters, here“Dan Wolf, explains what will happen between now and September 19.

Truitt gives credit to the many people who spoke out, “I honestly believe that the many letters to the Commission, the newspaper stories and editorials, and the sharp criticism of just plain folks like us have been a strong factor in turning a dispute into a negotiation.”

We don’t know what the outcome will be.

“But keep my email and my phone number handy. I’m keeping yours. Who knows what challenges are ahead!” added Truitt. “I’ve heard from so many people who care about our voting rights and about good government. (Yes, we filled the buses!) But freedom doesn’t come free. We have to continue to work for it.”

Stay tuned.

DOUBLE DIGITS – Thank You Barnstable

June 26, 2013

DSC_0648DOUBLE DIGITS.
Barnstable is a red town, but each vote for Ed Markey was added to the total that gave him a double-digit win.

Pundits are analyzing, calling Markey an incumbent. He wasn’t an incumbent anywhere but his own congressional district.

Comments like; “the machine pushed him over the edge…” “Scott Brown – Coakley turn-out vs today’s turnout,” the heat, the Bruins, schools out …. blah blah blah – every election has its own circumstances. Democrats don’t fall in line, swear to a pledge or do as they are told. That’s what makes us Democrats.

And MA relies heavily on the swing vote provided by unenrolled voters. We all did our part, from knocking on doors and making calls to contacting our own personal lists of friends family and neighbors to just getting to the polls and voting. The mid-Cape is red, that has wavered and wiggled just a little bit over the years. But when we move among the voters and have honest discussions we get results. Even though there are months until the next elections we need to keep talking about the issues, national and local.

Thank You to Sue and all of her hard-working volunteers!

… and Congratulations!
